Sir Peter O’Sullevan has been working with Weatherbys and ID Interactive to relive the most famous races as mobile phone ringtone commentaries for racing fans. The ringtones have been created using ID Interactive’s revolutionary new UrTone technology which allows users to make a ring tone from any part of a recording. Available from the Weatherbys website, the proceeds of the sales will be split between the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust and the Weatherbys Charitable Foundation.
Legendary commentator Sir Peter O’Sullevan has turned back the clock with new recordings of the wins of some of the nation’s favourite thoroughbreds. The nine commentaries will include household names such as Red Rum, who won the Grand National a record three times, and Shergar, the Derby winner mysteriously kidnapped in 1983. Others include Arkle, voted the most popular racehorse of all time by Racing Post readers and triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate.
Sir Peter says of the initiative:
“When I hung up my microphone over ten years ago the thought of my commentaries being heard over a mobile phone would have been extraordinary. Weatherbys ringtones give a chance to a new generation of racing enthusiasts as well as life long fans to hear some of our sport’s most glorious moments every time their phone rings - with charity benefiting at the same time.”
Nick Craven, CEO of Weatherbys Ventures, adds:
“Weatherbys has a tradition of marrying innovation with racing’s strong heritage. This is such a fun and exciting idea with racing’s most recognizable voice. With all profits going to charity we hope that phones across the country will soon be ringing with the sound of Sir Peter’s voice.”Red Herring’s lists of top private companies are an important part of the company’s tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs. Companies like Google (NASDAQ: GOOG - news), eBay and Skype were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors, and touted as leaders that would change the way we live and work.”
